![]() ![]() ![]() Ripto's Rage is probably the best entry, expanding infinitely on its predecessor in terms of detail, characters and especially world design. The world are a little bit less lively than its sequels but the revamped, unique dragons are one of the best parts of Reignited for me. Spyro the Dragon is the simplest and least showy of the trilogy, and has such a distinct feel about it, with recurring visual flair. However, by sticking almost too rigidly too its original format, the age of the game style shows a little and playing through all three entries becomes a bit of a slog by the end. The graphics are nothing short of stunning, the atmosphere is perfectly captured and gameplay is tweaked ever so slightly for that quality-of-life improvement neglected by the recent Crash remakes. It knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything more. ![]() Most people would probably rate this an 8-9, but I give it a 10 based purely on my own nostalgia of the franchise and how grateful I am that we got an honest remaster without bloating the game with extra content to make it seem relevant. These games are remembered for their fantastical elements and whimsy, not brutal difficulty. You have to be perfect with some objectives. The flight levels could give some people trouble but that's about it. If you played the Crash Bandicoot remaster then know this follows a similar formula as do most PS1 platformers. These games aren't difficult by any means nor are they terribly long. Being able to play this is a dream come true. Spyro was the first Playstation game I got back in the 90s and I loved it then, and it was strange realizing how dated the polygons looked when I tried revisiting it a few years ago. The price for all three games is damn good. The controls are fluid and responsive, nothing feels stiff at all. It stays true to the originals with only the major graphic overhaul and some minor improvements in other areas (mostly menu related). The game will now run on the emulator and you can play the game freely. Step 2: return to Retroarch and hit File > Open. A ROM is essentially a virtual version of the game that needs to be loaded into the emulator. But now you’ll need to find the correct ROMs online. Your emulator will now be ready to play Spyro the Dragon rom.
